Follicle Unit Transplantation: Why It’s Called the Strip Method

Hair TransplantWhile some cultures see no issues with baldness, others find it absolutely unfavourable to their quality of life. Fortunately, as with any medical condition thinkable, experts have found ways to combat a balding scalp.

You may have heard of follicle unit extraction (FUE), but there is another type of transplant type used worldwide, called follicle unit transplantation (FUT), Fue Clinics shares. FUT addresses baldness using a different method than FUE, the Strip Method.

Understanding the Strip Method

The term Strip Method is named after the way doctors extract hair follicles from the donor area, which is through cutting a strip from the scalp, usually at the back of the head. Containing a great number of follicles, the linear strip is cut into smaller follicular units to be grafted using micro-blades.

The surgeon makes incisions in the recipient area, where the grafts will be inserted one by one. It is a lengthy process that requires dexterity and focus, but once completed, the results are nothing short of miraculous.

The donor site, where the narrow strip was taken, may have a very thin linear scar on the back of the head that you can conceal with the right haircut. In most cases, a short-to-moderate crop will suffice, and the scar will fade over time.

A Chance At a New Life

For some people, like the Australian beauty expert Michael Brown, FUT has been life-changing. He underwent the procedure and came out a happy man, no longer suffering from thinning hair and the personal repercussions involved.

‘Hair (or lack thereof) can change someone’s appearance and confidence levels drastically,’ he shared on his blog, encouraging other balding men to make the same worthwhile investment.

If you are starting to see signs of hair loss, consider your options seriously. While FUT and FUE procedures may not be inexpensive, the results can be priceless.

‘All the money some guys spend on lotions and potions, and in one day, my life changed forever,’ Brown ended on a happy note.
