Serious Whiplash Injury in DenverOne of the most common injuries in a car accident is whiplash. While most whiplash injuries are relatively mild, and will heal without treatment other than rest and an ice bag, some can have long-term health effects. You may need a Denver auto accident chiropractor if your injury is bad enough to require physical therapy.

Neck and shoulder pain

A whiplash injury happens when your neck muscles and tendons suffer a strain from violent forward and backward movement of your head. This usually occurs when a car bumps into you from the back, or someone shakes you forcefully. It can also happen if you ride a horse for the first time and you have no idea what you are doing. You will feel some soreness in the neck and shoulders from the strain. That should go away after a couple of days. However, if the force was enough to tear muscle or tendons, the pain will get worse instead of better over time. Consult your doctor right away.

Ringing in the ears

Immediately after an accident, you may hear ringing in your ears. It is irritating and disorienting, but it should go away within 24 hours. If it does not, it may mean your whiplash injury is not going to, either. Go back to your doctor and have it checked. It may be whiplash, or something else.

Muscle weakness

It is natural enough to feel pain in your neck area if you have whiplash. However, if you start to feel tingling, pain or numbness in your legs, arms, or both, then you may have also injured your spine. Get medical attention immediately before it gets worse.

Whiplash is common in car accidents, but it will not do to ignore it. If you experience any of these symptoms, or you feel that your condition is getting worse, take no chances. Get medical help immediately and see a chiropractor to help you in your rehabilitation.
